Jyrki Raina, IMF General Secretary

Jyrki Raina was elected as General Secretary of the International Metalworkers' Federation at the 32nd IMF World Congress in May 2009.

Prior to that he was General Secretary of the Nordic IN in Sweden, a role he had held since 2006.

Born in Helsinki in 1960, Jyrki Raina's first work with unions was as a lawyer and collective bargaining officer for the Finnish Chemical Workers' Union in 1985.

Six years later he moved to Brussels for research activities at the ICEF (International Chemical and Energy Workers' Federation) before taking over the responsibility for policy development and networking in the energy industries. He became Director of Organisation at ICEM (International Chemical, Energy and Mine Workers' Federation) in 2000, assisting the General Secretary in planning strategies.

From 2001 to 2003 Jyrki served Finnish industrial trade unions as a consultant in Helsinki.

In 2003 he moved to Stockholm again, where he became General Secretary of Nordic Metal and Substitute member of the IMF's Executive Committee and EMF's Steering Committee.
