  • The IMF's four affiliates in Argentina coordinated three to four busloads of unionists to give a letter to the Mexican ambassador in Buenos Aires. At the last national IMF meeting in Argentina the situation in Mexico was discussed and the unions pledged solidarity support to Napoleon Gómez and the Mexican miners' union.   • The AMWU wrote a letter to the Mexican ambassador asking the Mexican government to respect union structures and union autonomy. See letter.

  • The five IMF affiliates of the national council of the IMF in Chile (FTC, CONSFETEMA, HUACHIPATO, CONSTRAMET & SINAMI) submitted a joint letter of protest and delivered this letter to the Mexican consulate in Santiago. They also made announcements to the local press on the situation and the unions' actions.

  • The EMF Executive Committee voted unanimously in support of the solidarity action for Mexican Miners and Metalworkers at their Executive Committee meeting in Luxembourg. The EMF sent a letter to the Mexican ambassador in Brussels. See letter.

  • About 25 union leaders and members demonstrated in front of the Mexican Embassy in Seoul. Members of the delegation met with Ambassador Leandro and delivered a letter in support of Napoleón Gómez Urrutia and the SNTMMSRM, while the rest of the participants waited outside singing labor songs and chanting. SINDICATO NACIONAL DE TRABAJADORES MINEROS, METALÚRGICOS Y SIMILARES DE LA REPÚBLICA MEXICANA (SNTMMSRM)

  • The SNTMMSRM coordinated a mass march in Mexico City and demonstrations and work stoppages around the country. Days before December 11, the union met with the new minister for labour, Javier Lozano Alarcón, to discuss their situation. The minister had previously publicly stated he would respect the right of union freedom and autonomy, so the union is hopeful that this meeting and the international show of support will provide some breakthrough in the problems they are facing. Paraguay
FEDERACIÓN DE TRABAJADORES METALÚRGICOS DEL PARAGUAY (FETRAMPAR)

  • The affiliate sent a protest letter to the Mexican embassy.


Peru
FEDERACIÓN DE TRABAJADORES DE LAS INDUSTRIAS MINERAS, METALÚRGICAS Y AFINES DEL PERÚ (FETIMAP) and CENTRAL NACIONAL DE TRABAJADORES INDUSTRIALES DEL METAL & ELECTRO MECANICA DEL PERU (CEMETAL)
  • The two IMF affiliates in Peru and the CNMM held a protest at the Mexican embassy and delivered a letter in support of the Mexican miners' union to embassy representatives. The CNMM reported that 45 people took part in the picket and there were some incidents with the police during the demonstration. See CEMETAL letters.

  • Russian affiliates sent a joint letter in support of Napoleón Gómez Urrutia and picketed the Mexican embassy in Moscow. During the picket journalists interviewed the participants. At 12.00 Mikhail Tarasenko met with an Economic Adviser to the Mexican Ambassador. Tarasenko expressed solidarity for the SNTMMSRM on behalf of the IMF and Russian trade unions.   • NUMSA members protested in front of the Mexican embassy in Pretoria. The union delivered a letter of protest calling for the reinstatement of Napoleón Gómez Urrutia and respect for international labour rights in Mexico.
