A similar Girl's Day was also held in Switzerland on 14 November 2002 to expose girls to a wider choice of career options by spending a day at work with their father or mother.
Despite rising education levels among young women, their occupational choices are often restricted to "typically female" occupations that are badly paid and lacking in promotional opportunities. On the other hand, enterprises are suffering from a lack of well-qualified employees, particularly in technical areas. Girls' Day is an attempt to expose more girls to career opportunities in industry and hopefully resolve both of these problems.
The idea originated in the US with a 'Take our daughters to work day'.
