Training leads to women holding leadership positions
Starting in 1996, the Guyana Mining, Metal & General Workers’ Union held annual workshops to help women develop the skills and knowledge to become shop stewards.

As the workshops developed, they put more emphasis on empowering women to face the challenges of globalisation. The success of these workshops is evident – as a direct result, women now hold the positions of General Secretary and Principal Assistant Secretary of the union.
