Framework agreement at Prym
A global framework agreement for the German-based company Prym, covering 4,000 employees, has been signed.
GERMANY: A declaration on "Social Rights and Industrial Relations" has been signed by the management of Prym, the Prym European Works Council and by the International Metalworkers' Federation, represented by its president, Jürgen Peters.
The German-based Prym, founded in 1530, is a family-owned company specialised in the manufacturing of metal press buttons, electrical contact parts – also for the automotive industry – and sewing and quilting notions. The international framework agreement acknowledges the company's social responsibility, its support of and compliance with the ILO core labour standards and the basic right of all employees to establish and join unions and employee representations.
Amongst other items, the IFA stipulates that ILO Conventions No. 87 (Freedom of Association) and No. 98 (Right to Collective Bargaining) will be respected.
Moreover, the company supports and encourages its contractors to take this declaration into account in their own respective corporate policy. Prym "views this as an advantageous basis for mutual relationships."
Prym facilities include Birkenfeld and Stolberg, in Germany, Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA and Malaysia.
Note: The first framework agreement for the metal industry was signed at Merloni Elettrodomestici, in December 2001. Since then, the IMF has signed framework agreements with, among others, Volkswagen, DaimlerChrysler and SKF.
