ACTIONS TAKEN BY COUNTRY - MEXICO 2011

Calling for trade union rights in Mexico, the international trade union movement held various actions including rallies, meetings with Mexican ambassadors, and letter and mass email communication in at least 30 countries around the world from February 14 to 19, 2011.

The date coincides with the fifth anniversary of the deaths of 65 miners at the Pasta de Conchos mine disaster in Mexico on February 19, 2006.

In Mexico, unions held various actions across the country throughout the week to highlight the systematic abuse of trade union rights by the Mexican government.

The action to support the democratic and independent unions in Mexico was taken by trade unions around the world affiliated to the International Metalworkers' Federation (IMF), the International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers' Unions (ICEM), the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF), UNI Global Union and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
