IMF Adopts Statement on Gender Equality
Following the election of eight women to the IMF Executive, the IMF World Congress today adopted a statement on Gender Equality. The statement recognises the differences women experience at work, in unions and in society at large.
The statement calls for equal opportunities for work and pay for men and women, for women’s issues to be included in collective bargaining and for better educational opportunities for women.

The statement also commits the IMF to working towards improving the representation of women in its international structures and to ensure increased participation of women in the IMF’s activities.

Speaking in support of the statement Carol Landry (USW) an IMF Executive member said that all affiliates need to prioritise organising unorganised women as “workers’ rights and women’s rights are one and the same thing.”
